WATERMARK PRINTING
What is watermark printing on the umbrella?
Watermark printing, involves creating a design that is initially not visible on the fabric of the umbrella but becomes visible when the fabric gets wet, revealing the logo or designs. This effect is achieved through a combination of fabric properties and printing techniques.
Dry-the design is almost not visiable
Wet-the design is visiable on the fabric
Watermark Printing Process on Umbrellas:
Design Creation: Create a digital design that incorporates translucent or semi-transparent elements. These elements will form the watermark pattern. This design should be mindful of how the pattern will look when wet.
Screen Preparation: Similar to screen printing, a screen with a stencil is prepared. However, in this case, the stencil is designed to have varying levels of transparency. The areas that are supposed to be more translucent are given finer mesh openings, allowing less ink to pass through.
Ink Preparation: Specialized translucent inks are prepared. These inks should allow light to pass through when dry but become more visible and opaque when wet. This often involves using water-reactive or water-absorbent inks.
Printing Process: The prepared screen is mounted on a printing press, and the umbrella fabric is positioned beneath it. The translucent ink is applied to the fabric through the screen using a squeegee. The ink adheres to the fabric in the areas designated by the stencil, creating the watermark pattern.
Drying and Setting: After printing, the umbrella goes through a drying process. This helps the ink adhere properly to the fabric. Once dried, the umbrella is ready to be used.
Water Reaction: When the umbrella fabric gets wet (from rain or any other moisture source), the water interacts with the translucent ink. This interaction causes the ink to absorb or spread, making the printed design more visible. This is the watermark effect coming into play.
Design Visibility: As the fabric dries, the watermark design may become less visible or return to its initial translucent state, depending on the ink’s properties.
It’s important to note that the success of this process depends on the choice of fabric, ink, and printing technique. Proper coordination between these elements is crucial to achieving the desired watermark effect. As technology and materials evolve, there might be more advanced methods available for creating such effects on umbrellas.
